This week, the sun-kissed islands of Whitsunday and Whitsunday Island in the North East of England were subjected to brutal, persistent and persistent rain. Unions claim great victory over qantas

A group of four unions including the AUPW and Unite have won a strike in Sydney's Docklands for the third time over the airline's pay dispute.


Qantas agreed an indefinite strike extension earlier this week, with the union's leader, Tony Burke, saying the deal offered the airline a "fair settlement".


A Unite spokesman said the airline was prepared to continue a two-day stoppage on Monday to demonstrate its commitment to a fair deal for its workforce.


"Qantas has demonstrated its continued commitment to fair pay and flexible working conditions for its employees by continuing a two-day stoppage on Sunday to demonstrate our commitment to a fair settlement with union members," said Mr Burke.


"We will continue our two-day strike today and we expect another strike on Monday morning."

Qantas spokesman Kevin Burke said the company would not give up on its commitment to a fair pay and flexible working conditions.


He said the company's strategy was "to maximise our shareholder value rather than try to squeeze the employees" as it did under previous concessions for its Sydney branch employees.


"We know that not all employees would see the same benefits, but we are confident that those who want more are well aware of this and they are committed to maintaining this approach."


The union said the decision to agree an indefinite strike was also backed by the AUPW and Unite.


It had been calling for an indefinite strike for 17 days and had reached its offer earlier this week.


Qantas has also agreed to close its Sydney branch at the end of August.


It also promised to allow the AUPW and Unite to be back on a contract basis for the remainder of the next year.


"Qantas continues to be the union representing its members and we will do everything in our power to protect our membership," said Mr Burke.


The AUPW and Unite said the airline's decision to offer a two-day strike reflected its commitment to a fair settlement for its workforce.
